About Us
St. Lawrence Primary School is located in the parish of Christ Church. The school boasts of small class sizes whereby individualised instruction can be offered to all. In addition to the curriculum as set by the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, the school also has a number of extra curricular activities. This ensures that the students are well rounded to develop into constructive citizens of the society.
The school also has a harmonious relationship with the business community. Many of them offer donations of books and food items to the school on a continuous basis.

History
The St. Lawrence Composite School in its present structure, provides a formal education for both boys and girls between the ages of three (3) and eleven (11+) years, in two separate departments of INFANTS and JUNIORS.
Its history dates back to the beginning of the twentieth century, when the education of the children of this area was established by the St. Lawrence Anglican Church, in or near the church building, in St. Lawrence Gap.
Indications are that boys and girls were taught together until the year 1900, when two separate schools were built, and students between the ages of five (5) and fourteen (14) were educated separately.
The separation of the sexes continued until 1955, when only infant children were taught together and separated again at the age of seven (7).
In September of 1955, the infant students were housed in a new structure at the Western side of the playground, and their educational programme was administered by the Head teacher of the Girls’ School. Hurricane Janet which struck the island later in the same month, damaged and seriously weakened the old one-room, wooden building which was the Boys’ school. A few years later this was replaced by the present two-storied building.
By September of 1978, the two schools were amalgamated, and at first named the St. Lawrence Mixed School. Mr. Darnley Marshall, formerly head teacher of the St. Lawrence Boys’ School was given the charge of the amalgamated schools. In the same year the school began catering to students up to the age of sixteen (16) years.
Students are presently taught in three buildings, each housing separately, pupils at the Infant and Junior stages of education. The junior students are located in the building nearest to the roadside, which is still presently owned by the church and the upstairs building . The infants are in the building to the east of the junior block.
Students from the Infant and Junior Departments are drawn mainly from the surrounding districts and some come from more distant areas. These include: Oistins, Parish Land, Thyme Bottom, Fairy Valley, Kendal Hill, Silver Hill and Sargeant’s Village in Christ Church; Dayrell’s Road, Britton’s Hill, Bayville and Bridgetown in St. Michael and also from several districts in St. George, St. John, St. Philip and St. Thomas.
In September 2000 it was renamed the St. Lawrence Primary School. This was as a result of the transfer of students from the Senior Department to St. Giles’ Senior School.
The St. Lawrence Primary School started with a roll of eighty-two (82) students, forty-three (43) boys and thirty-nine (39) girls and a staff of eleven (11) including the Principal.
The present roll at the school is 207 with 22 teachers including the Principal.
